Famed saxophonist, bandleader, conductor and composer, member of the Artie Shaw, Jan Savitt, Benny Goodman and Bunny Berigan orchestras. He served in World War II and led his own orchestra from 1944-1946, then smaller groups. He was seen often in television orchestras, and made many records. He joined ASCAP in 1955, and his popular-song compositions include "Take Care", and "The Back to Back".
