Biography

Harivansh Rai Bachchan was an Indian Hindi-language poet and writer of the Nayi Kavita literary movement of early 20th century Hindi literature. He was born in a Hindu Srivastava Kayastha family, in Babupatti village in the Pratapgarh district, in the United Provinces of Agra and Oudh, in British India. Bachchan is famously known for his early work, Madhushala, which was published in 1935. He is the father of mega superstar Amitabh Bachchan and grandfather of actor Abhishek Bachchan. In 1976, he was honoured with the Padma Bhushan for his service to Hindi literature.
