Actress, director, producer, singer, author, and activist, Clara Bellar was born and raised in Paris. In addition to French, she speaks English, German, Portuguese, and Spanish.
Clara first gained recognition for her roles in Rendez-vous in Paris by Ćric Rohmer and Steven Spielberg's A.I. Artificial Intelligence. She went on to star in Paul Schrader's Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist, as well as leading roles in indie films including Kill the Poor, This Space Between Us, So This Is Romance, The Waiting Game, The Pharmacist, The First Nine & a Half Weeks, and Bitter Oranges.
Founder of the Ipanema Theater Troupe, she has produced, translated, and performed in numerous stage productions. She is also the director of the acclaimed documentary Being and Becoming, which remained continuously in theaters in Paris for over four years. Clara is a singer with two albums (My Brazilian Heart, My French Heart) and a published author.
Her advocacy centers on educational freedom, respect for children's autonomy, and the natural learning movement, including her role as patron of the Paris Democratic School and the civil disobedience movement Enfance Libre.
