Tom Berry began his career in the 1980s as a screenwriter and director. Some of his notable credits include Crazy Moon, starring Kiefer Sutherland and released in American theatres by Miramax; Never Too Late, starring Olympia Dukakis and written by Donald Martin; Screamers, distributed by Columbia Tri-Star; The Assignment, featuring Aidan Quinn, Donald Sutherland, and Ben Kingsley; and The Unsaid, starring Andy Garcia.
In 1984, Mr. Berry founded Montreal-based Allegro Films, one of Canada’s most successful and prolific entertainment companies. He served as president of Allegro from 1984 to 1997. Under his leadership as Chief Executive Officer, Allegro Films expanded its operations in production, distribution, and technical facilities. In 1997, the company was sold and integrated into Groupe Québécor.
In 2001, Mr. Berry founded Reel One Entertainment / Première Bobine, now recognized as a leading international producer, distributor, and financier of television movies. The company has offices in Los Angeles, London, Vancouver, and Toronto, with its headquarters in Montreal. In October 2024, Mr. Berry stepped down as CEO of Première Bobine and Reel One Entertainment, as the companies became primarily owned by Newen Studios (a subsidiary of the TF1 Group) and A+E. However, he remains involved as a board member and chairman, ensuring continuity for Première Bobine and Champlain Media.
Mr. Berry is also the president of Champlain Media, a company he co-founded in 2019. Champlain Media is a leading producer and distributor of TV movies and series in Canada, with operations in Toronto and Vancouver. The company specializes in acquiring and producing high-quality television content, focusing on genres such as romantic comedies, Christmas movies, and thrillers.
