Ion Caramitru was a famous Romanian film and theater actor and director. He was born on March 9th, 1942 in Bucharest, Romania. He graduated from 'Institute of Theatrical Arts and Cinematography' in 1964.In 1964, he plays first role in the movie 'Comoara din Vadul Vechi'. Other notable roles in the films 'Stejar - extrema urgenta' (1974), 'Stefan Luchian' (1981) , 'Liceenii' (1986) . Played on the stage of the ''National Theater I.L. Caragiale'' in Bucharest. He has been president of UNITER since 1990 and since 2005 he has been the director of the National Theater in Bucharest. In 2007 he received National Order "Star of Romania" in the rank of Knight.He is married with actress Micaela Caracas. They had three children, Stefan, Andrei and Matei .
