Biography

Garth Davis is an internationally acclaimed director known for his meticulous attention to detail, cinematic eye, and deep investment in the actor-director relationship. His work has been recognized at every major awards show in the world. Garth directed the first four episodes of the highly anticipated Netflix series East of Eden, adapted by Zoe Kazan from Steinbeck's novel and starring Florence Pugh. His most recent film, Foe, was made for Amazon and based on the novel of the same name. Starring Saoirse Ronan and Paul Mescal, it premiered at the 2023 New York Film Festival. Garth is perhaps best known for his feature debut, Lion, which earned six Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture. Garth's work was recognized uniquely by his peers when he became the first director in DGA history to be nominated in both the Feature Film and First-Time Feature Film categories in the same year, winning the latter. He followed it with Mary Magdalene, starring Rooney Mara and Joaquin Phoenix. In television, Garth co-directed Top of the Lake with Jane Campion, receiving both Emmy and BAFTA nominations for his work.
