Born in Southern California, Bob Destri Hilgenberg began his career as
writer/performer with The Groundlings and Second City, LA. After dozens of Film and TV appearances, Bob met Rob Muir at Second City where the two began writing sketches together. The newly formed writing team quickly transitioned into
feature film writing, with a series of comedy rewrites and pitch sales, all at major studios. To date, they have written on over 35 studio projects.
Most recent projects include The Untitled Molly Shannon Project (2022)
at Walt Disney Pictures, a re-edit of a newly remastered version of Hey Mike, The Family Circus (2011) a live-action comedy
for 20th Century Fox and Walden Media. Meet The Haunteds (2011) with
director Steve Carr at Cowboys and Aliens Platinum Studios. An
unannounced feature project for Sony Pictures Animation. Walt Disney's
Tinkerbell And The Great fairy Rescue released in 2010.
Other recent assignments include the comedy, a remake of the 1940 classic comedy starring William Powell & Myrna Loy, I Love You Again, for New Line Cinema.
Their popular original screenplay, Scared Guys, is still at Sony
Pictures, (Bob & Rob are in the process of reacquiring the project).
Bob and Rob did rewrites on Stuck On You for the Farrelly Brothers, and they wrote
Father Knows Best for Nickelodeon/Paramount. Their original screenplay
Small World, is still active at Fox.
A turning point for Bob & Rob was in 2005, when they were hired to
write Monsters Inc. 2 and Toy Story 3 for Walt Disney Pictures. It was
their introduction to the world of animated feature films...they were
hooked!
Other assignments include the comedy, I Love You Again, for New Line
Cinema. Just prior to their assignments at Disney, they wrote the first
draft of the Dennis Quaid, Rene Russo family comedy "Yours, Mine &
Ours" for MGM/Paramount. Off the success of that script, they set up
another project at MGM, an original screenplay, "Infantile", which they
sold on a pitch and was recently picked up by Disney in turn-around.
In 2003, they wrote and directed their award winning, comedy short
film, Hiding In Walls", which starred Jane Lynch (Glee, 40 Year Old
Virgin) and Danny Trejo, (Machete, Spy Kids). The film satirizes Bob &
Rob's adventures as Hollywood Screenwriters. Their television writing
includes the produced pilot "Grown-Ups", for Columbia/Tri-Star
Television. The comedy sitcom starred, Sam Seder, Julie Warner, Farah
Forke, Michael Weatherly and Pat Finn.
When Bob is not writing, he likes to sit around and ponder
the many variations on his name, Robert, Robby, Bob, Bobby...Destri Hilgenberg.
