Biography

David Heeley was born on December 26, 1940 in northern England. He professionally joined the British Broadcasting Corporation in London after his graduation from Oxford University in 1961 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Physics initially as an engineer, but later its staff director. Heeley moved to New York City in the United States eight years later. He would work for public television's WNET especially Sesame Street (1969) and subsequently own Top Hat Productions with Joan Kramer. Heeley received multiple awards, including six Emmys, has been nominated for three Directors Guild of America awards and taught a course on directing at New York University's School of Continuing and Professional Studies. He was executive producer of the WNET/PBS series Nature (1982) from 1982 to 1991. Heeley additionally produced numerous acclaimed documentaries together with Joan Kramer.
