Dietmar Hochmuth was born in 1954 in Berlin/GDR. Between 1972 and '73 he worked as assistant director for the DEFA Studios in Babelsberg. In 1973 he moved to Moscow in order to study film at the VGIK (class of Georgi Danelia). Since 1979 he made 4 feature films and about 20 documentaries. In addition to filmmaking, he also works as an author, translator and publisher. In 1996 he founded his own publishing house called PotemkinPress.
