Born in Brooklyn, New York and raised outside of Columbus, Ohio, John worked for many years as an actor in theatre, television and film. He began a successful feature screenwriting career ("Indianapolis", "Queen of the Jews, aka Queen Bess", "The Last of Sheila") after moving to Los Angeles in 1991 and made his writing/directing feature debut with MGM and Jim Henson Pictures' Good Boy (2003).
