Biography

Born in village of Limbach in wartime 1931. Left the then formed GDR in 1951 to study on humane discipline in Freiburg/Breisgau, West Germany. Became an internationally acknowledged professor of Language and Germanistica. At the age of 48 and after years destined to travel the world, he came to rest in Erding, a small suburb of Munich, his lead to innummerable novels, radio plays and plays. He received numberous awards, including the significant "Ingeborg-Bachmann-Award". His lifework was awarded the Munich Literature Award in 1993. He died four weeks after he finished his last novel, "Die kleine Stechardin".
