Born NYC 1874 of German parents, father was investment banker, Carl Eduard( Charles Edward), mother Gertrud Wiebe, died London 1945. was graduated from Harvard, lived in Paris and London for most of his life. Changed spelling of last name in London, during the First World War. Became British subject 1916, served as Captain in the British Secret Service.
