He studied at at IDHEC - the Institut des Hautes Études Cinématographiques in Paris, and directed The Six Sided Triangle (1963), which was Academy Award nominated. He went on to direct The Virgin and the Gypsy (1970) which was nominated for a Golden Gobe, That Lucky Touch (1975), Alternative 3 (1977), Priest of Love (1981), The Clandestine Marriage (1998) and The Maids (1975), which he also co-wrote.
