Juana Molina, daughter of Chunchuna Villafañe and Horacio Molina,
started her acting career in the middle eighties. Her first appearance
on television, was in the show La Noticia Rebelde (1986), hosted by
'Jorge
Guinzburg' and
Adolfo Castelo. On the show, Juana played
various characters and appeared on many comedy skits with actress
Andrea Acatto, among others.
In 1988, she achieved more popularity when she became a regular cast
member in
Antonio Gasalla's TV comedy
show, Gasalla (1988). Juana and Antonio kept working together on the
show "El Mundo de Gasalla (1990)", which was also a major success that
counted with other great comedy figures such as
Norma Pons,
Mónica Scapparone and
Juan Acosta, among others.
In 1991,
Juana Molina went
mainstream when she got her own comedy show called Juana y sus Hermanas
(1991). The show went on for three years, achieving major success.
In 1996, Juana Molina released her first album, 'Rara', proving the
audience that she was in fact determined to leave her days as an
actress behind. Nowadays, Juana is a respected singer and achieved
popularity in several countries. She has released four albums: Rara
(1996), Segundo (2003), Tres Cosas (2004) and Son (2006). Her second
album, was nominated for "Best World Music Album 2003" on Entertainment
Weekly and it appeared on the Shortlist Award 2004. Juana Molina's
style has been compared several times with Björk, Beth Orton and Lisa
Germano.
