Born in Greece where she learned classical singing. Fired from Athen's conservatory because she used to sing jazz in cabarets. Began an international career as singer in the early 1960s. Sold her first million records in Germany.

Released a jazz album produced by Quincy Jones in 1962. Sold over 300 millions albums worldwide. Married to the music producer André Chapelle January, 13, 2003, in Switzerland. Her latest album, "Fille du soleil" (Mercury/Universal, 2002), contains songs written by Charles Aznavour, Jean-Claude Brialy, Marie Nimier, and Daniel Lavoie.
