The multi-award-winning director, scriptwriter and novelist Nikos Nikolaidis was born in Athens.
He studied Film Directing in Athens, at the Hellenic Cinema Stavrakos, and Stage Design at Vakalo Academy. In 1960 he became the assistant director of Vasilis Georgiadisās - one of the best film directors - and in 1962 Nikolaidis directed a short film, Lacrimae Rerum, which competed at the 1964 Cannes Film Festival. His debut feature-length film, Euridice BA 2037, premiered in 1975 at the Thessaloniki Film Festival and won the "Best Directorās" award .
Aside from film-directing, Nikolaidis has worked as a producer for a record company and has put his signature on more than 200 television commercials.
He is the only Greek filmmaker to have been awarded "Best Director" five times at the Thessaloniki Film Festival. He also twice won the Film Critics Association Award for "Best Picture" at the Festival.
"Sweet Bunch" 1983 was selected as one of the 10 best films of all Greek cinema.
"Singapore Sling" 1990 is among the 100 best cult films of all movies.
