Biography

Aqila Ratib was an Egyptian actress. She graduated from Tawfik Coptic School and was known for her beautiful voice. She joined the musical theatrical troupes of Ali Al-Kassar and Aziz Eid in the thirties, to break into the field of cinema in the 1940s. She chose the nickname "Aqila Ratib" after her father refused her work in the cinema.

She succeeded in the roles of the working-class woman more than the aristocratic girl. She was known for her mother roles. She acted in more than 60 films in the Egyptian cinema including Ailat Zizi (1963), Cairo 30 (1966), Midaq Alley (1963), El-Fatenah wa el-Salook (1974), Alexandria... Why? (1979) and Al Hob Wahdo La Yakfi (1980). She has won many awards for roles including her work in Salah Abu Seif's La tutfi el shams (1961).
