Biography

Nikos Vandoros was a Greek actor whose long career across theatre, film, and television developed alongside an unusual parallel path in public service, as he served for 33 years in the Hellenic Fire Service from 1943 until 1977. Raised in Athens in an artistic family, with a father who worked as a baritone and a mother performing as soprano Sonia Iatridou, he was exposed early to music and stage performance, later studying at the Higher Commercial School, the Hellenic Conservatoire's melodrama school, and the Drama School of the National Theatre of Greece. He made his stage debut in 1956 as a tenor in operetta before turning to prose theatre in 1958, collaborating with companies led by figures such as Dimitris Myrat, Ellie Lambeti, and Manos Katrakis, including appearing as the Hodja in "O kapetan Michalis" in 1966, while also writing children's plays like "To oneiro tis Isavellas" and "I archontopoula kai o mikros tsigganos." His screen career began in 1960 with the Finos Film production I Am Innocent (1960), followed by appearances in films such as Jenny Jenny (1966) and a range of productions through the 1970s and 1980s, often in supporting and character roles, and later extending to television where he became a familiar presence in series including sto camping (1989), Arahtoi kai light (1994), and Fili Zois (2002), alongside guest roles in international productions like Hart to Hart (1979) and The First Olympics: Athens 1896 (1984). Across roughly 100 combined credits, he maintained a steady presence in Greek entertainment, also taking on a producing role in Poios pantrevetai tin gynaika mou? (1989) and serving as president of the Society of Artists of the Ionian Islands, while being honored by the Union of Greek Actors. He had two children, including actor Theofilos Vandoros, and remained active in the industry for decades, building a body of work defined by consistent character roles in popular Greek productions.
