Biography

Famed violinist and composer, educated at the Royal Music School in Odessa with Fiedelman, and in the Petrograd University with Leopold Auer. He was awarded an honorary Musical Doctorate from the Chicago Musical College. He made his Berlin debut in 1904, his London debut in 1905, and his New York debut with the Russian Symphony in 1908. Mischa Elman was a violin soloist with symphony orchstras throughout the world, and made many concert tours, records and broadcast appearances. He joined ASCAP in 1924, and his classical works include "Romance" and "In a Gondola" (for violin), and transcriptions of works by Schubert, Rachmaninoff, and Beethoven.
