Andrew Baird is a Honors graduate from The National Film School of Ireland where he majored in both Art Direction / Graphic Design and Film Direction.
Influenced by brothers, Ridley and Tony Scott , at only 24 Andrew set up the production company, Asylum, with his brother, John. They spent the next several years making numerous commercials, short films and music videos including Up the Country, a special short film commission for The Irish Film Board and The Kiss of Life , an official selection of the prestigious Clermont Ferrand Film Festival in France.
After a very successful run with Asylum, Baird moved to Eastern Europe ( Budapest and Bucharest) for 2 years to continue to direct international commercials and music videos as well as developing a feature length film project. Once the project was ready to present he moved to Los Angeles in 2006.
In LA he continued to direct and also design hundreds of high end commercials and music videos for BMW, Ke$ha, Ash, Avenged Sevenfold, Korn, Toyota, Flo Ride, David Guetta, Versace, Bono, Cold War Kids, X Japan, Levi's to name a few.
Baird got considerable attention for writing and directing the infamous long-form music film for The Weekend: Kiss Land ; the title song from Abel's debut album from XO / Republic / Universal.
ICM sent him the script for his debut feature, the Ne-noir , Zone 414 after the writer; Bryan Edward Hill (Titans, Ash vs Evil Dead) saw the director's cut of Kiss Land.
Baird cast Guy Pearce in the lead and shot the picture in Europe in early 2020. Matilda Lutz (Revenge) and Travis Fimmel ( Vikings , Raised by Wolves) rounded out the cast. Zone 414 made it's debut on Netflix on New Years Day 2022 in the US and sat on the Top 10 for 3 weeks. Universal Pictures released the picture internationally.
One Way, a gritty, modern day crime thriller was presented to Andrew by his management team as a follow up. Baird cast Colson Baker (Machine Gun Kelly), Kevin Bacon, Storm Reid ( Euphoria ) Drea De Matteo and a second collaboration with Travis Fimmel. It was released theatrically in the US on September 2, 2022. The NY Times singled it out as one the 5 best genre films on release
and received a lot of positive critical attention from the top tier critics including The Guardian and LA Times.
Baird's new picture, the contemporary folk horror western , Sunrise is in post production. It stars Alex Pettyfer and a second collaboration with Guy Pearce. Lionsgate are releasing the picture theatrically in the US in early 2024 and Sony Pictures , Wild Bunch and Canal + have it in several international territories.
In 2025 Andrew embarked on his 4th picture , The Lost Ones. This suspense thriller about a cult family in the deep south marked his second collaboration with Alex Pettyfer. Henry Golding and Laura Haddock also star. The studio picture was shot at the legendary Nu Boyanna Film Studios in Sofia, Bulgaria. Paramount are releasing the film in 2026.
Andrew is currently in Newfoundland, Canada prepping his 5th picture , the intense political conspiracy thriller, The Marshal for Nic Chartier and Voltage Pictures ( The Hurt Locker) and The Traveling Picture Show ( A Walk Among the Tombstones). This marks Andrew's third collaboration with Academy Award Nominee , Guy Pearce who leads a stellar cast , including Bruce Greenwood , Brian F. O'Byrne, Johannes Haukur Johanneson and Kaniehtiio Horn.
