Biography

Ric Meyers became assistant editor for Atlas Comics in 1972, then went on to serve as contributing editor for Starlog (1978-1980) Famous Monsters of Filmland (1981) Inside Kung Fu (1991-2011) and The Armchair Detective (1980-1997) -- as well as author multiple movie and TV books, such as The World of Fantasy Films (1980), The Great Science Fiction Films (1984), For One Week Only: The World of Exploitation Films (1983), TV Detectives (1981), and Martial Arts Movies: From Bruce Lee to Jackie Chan & More (2001), among others.

He began his media career by collaborating with director Jeff Lieberman to rewrite the horror film Just Before Dawn (1981) in one weekend (for which he was end-credited as "Background Research"). Since then, in addition to writing and ghost-writing dozens of novels -- including Remo Williams (1976-1977), Dirty Harry (1981-1984), The Incredible Hulk (1979), and the Ninja Master (1981-1988) -- Ric also served as special media consultant for The Twilight Zone reboot (1985), Columbo (1990), Murder She Wrote (1995); and creative consultant for The Art of Action: Martial Arts in Motion Pictures (2002), Kung Fu Panda (2008) and Minions: The Rise of Gru (2022).

In addition, Ric wrote the screenplay for Films of Fury: The Kung Fu Movie Movie (2011) -- plus the book it was based on (Films of Fury: The Kung Fu Movie Book) -- as well as contributed to more than 300 martial art movie DVDs while appearing on A&E Biography (2001-2003), Bravo Profiles (2002), The Incredibly Strange Film Show (1987-1988), and Iron Fist & Kung Fu Kicks (2019).

Ric has been inducted into multiple international Martial Art Halls of Fame, as well as been given special awards from the Mystery Writers and Science Fiction Writers of America. And, if asked nicely, he'll even appear in a few movies (like The Suppressor and Black Day).
