Kamil Haque is an actor/acting instructor pursuing a career in theater
and film in Los Angeles.
As a native of Singapore and multi ethnic in origin, Kamil Haque did
all his schooling up to pre-university in the Anglo-Chinese School
family of schools. Kamil first developed his love for acting under the
tutelage of Julia Gabriel in Singapore. Now based in Los Angeles, Kamil
is a BFA (Hons) in Acting graduate from the American Musical and
Dramatic Academy (AMDA). He is the first person in their 50+ history to
receive Honors for Acting upon graduation.
Kamil graduated from the prestigious Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film
Institute where he also now teaches. He is the youngest and first Asian
to teach acting at the Institute. At the Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film
Institute, Kamil has been recognized as the first person to make the
transition from student to full-fledged teacher.
The Institute was founded by Lee Strasberg who is considered the
"father of method acting in America," according to author Mel Gussow.
Mr. Strasberg is also recognized for having "revolutionized the art of
acting by having a profound influence on performance in American
theater and movies". Notable alumni that the Institute have trained
include Angelina Jolie, Scarlett Johansson, Christoph Waltz, Anne
Bancroft, Dustin Hoffman, Montgomery Clift, James Dean, Marilyn Monroe,
Julie Harris, Paul Newman, Al Pacino and Robert De Niro. Kamil is proud
to be able to continue the lineage of work first started by Lee
Strasberg. In the words of Mr. Strasberg "It's about the work" and the
work works. Kamil, having been trained by one of the last few remaining
master teachers alive today, Ms. Hedy Sontag, is well placed to take on
a new generation of actors to uncover the next Hollywood star.
Kamil also teaches acting at East West Players (EWP) in Downtown Los
Angeles. EWP is first the Asian American theatre group in the country
and is considered "the nation's pre-eminent Asian American theater
troupe."
In the United States, Kamil has worked with the Company of Angels
(CoA), The Actors Studio, East West Players, We Tell Stories, AMDA
(LA), Unknown Theater, The Group at Strasberg and Theatre 40. Kamil is
a member and Internship Director of CoA, LA's oldest repertory theater
company.
Kamil seeks to further his acting craft and directing career whilst
developing new teaching techniques for actors. Like the founding
members of the Group Theatre, he hopes to spring forth the 'Fervent
Years' in the lives of people he meets, trains and works with.
