Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina to a retired military man and a housewife, Cris Miró was an Argentine entertainer and media personality, best known as the first transgender woman to become the country's top-billing vedette (the main artist in the country's popular cabaret shows). Following her graduation from secondary school, she studied dentistry and dance simultaneously. Miró began her career in entertainment dancing in gay clubs in Buenos Aires. In one such club, Bunker, she gained an artistic director and a press agent who steered her career toward fringe theatre. In 1994 she became a vedette at Teatro Maipo. She quickly gained popularity and media attention, becoming the top-grossing vedette in Argentina. She died on 1 June 1999, aged 33.
