Third and final collaboration between Dana Andrews and director Jacques Tourneur, who were good friends in real life. The first was the Western, Canyon Passage (1946), followed by the horror classic Curse of the Demon (1957) (Night of the Demon).

A contemporary review of this picture noted it was the first film to deal with government lobbyists and their use of doctored polls to influence public policy.

Part of Kino Lorber's Sixth Film Noir Box Set along with Chicago Confidential (1957) starring Brian Keith and Dick Foran (the villain in this movie) and The Boss (1956) starring John Payne. Although political corruption is not mentioned on the box set itself, it does define all three movies, all of which are regarded as not genuine noir films, but with noir elements.
