• The actual team didn't have enough money: once they arrived to the US border, they had to walk 7 miles to the city of McAllen, where their first game was to be played. They also struggled with food and lodging, and only the kindness of Texan people (Latinos and non-Latinos) allowed them to go on. By the time the team won all the regional games, they turned into some sort of local celebrities.
• The very same team upon which this movie is based (the Industrial Little League, who played themselves in the film) won the Little League World Series back-to-back in 1957 and 1958. They were the first non-US team to win the championship. 39 years later, another team from Monterrey, the Linda Vista Little League, became the 1997 Little League World Series champions.
• The real Little League champions (the team itself) actually play themselves in the film, as it was produced less than 2 years after they won the Little League World Series for the second time.
