One of only three series produced by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Television in which a loud vibration of a muted trumpet is synchronized to the animation of the lion roaring in the closing logo (the pilot episode uses the "relaxed lion" drawing similar to the logo used in the TV series The Thin Man (1957) and Northwest Passage (1958)). The other two are National Velvet (1960) and The Asphalt Jungle (1961). When the logo is seen at the beginning of the opening titles, after the fanfare ends the logo disappears in an iris-out effect similar to the National Velvet version except that the series title appears in a zoom-in effect instead of the iris-in effect seen on National Velvet.

The series' main setting is the archipelago of the Maluku Islands, located in eastern Indonesia. The main cast's charter flights were a convenient excuse to set episodes in several other areas.

The only regularly-used aircraft of the small charter company depicted in the series is a Grumman Goose (Grumman G-21 Goose). Introduced in 1937 as an amphibious flying boat, the Goose was a relatively light transport aircraft. Its large interior space allowed fitting for either a transport or luxury airliner role. Military variants of the Goose were used by the Royal Canadian Air Force both during World War II and in its aftermath.
