• Pedro Armendáriz committed suicide one day before the film's American premiere.

• Pedro Armendáriz filmed The Conqueror (1956) near the Nevada Test Site in the city of St. George, Utah. From this landing, several tons of radiant sand from the area were used in the studio for decoration. Over the next few years, 91 crew members fell ill with cancer, including John Wayne and Susan Hayward, the director Dick Powell and Armendáriz himself. When he learned of his incurable illness during the filming of the James Bond film Love Greetings from Moscow in 1963, he ended his life shortly after filming by shooting him in the heart.
