• Director Seth Holt told an interviewer that he had had misgivings about this melodramatic and unlikely subject until he discovered that Bryan Forbes owed British Lion one more job under an old contract; he promptly hired Forbes to do a rewrite, which he completed in four days.. This, he said, improved the film's prospects greatly.
