In the forest near the village of Drahovice, a nurse from the local health center is found murdered. Three months ago, another young woman died nearby and a sexual motive was proved in the case of her murder. In the case of the nurse, the motives are not so clear. Two criminologists from Prague - Major Kalas (Rudolf Hrušínský) and Lieutenant Varga (Radoslav Brzobohatý) - patiently collect all available leads and question the villagers.

Did you know
• A real psychiatrist and occasional writer Miroslav Plzák, a well-known media figure of the time, played the episodic role of a psychiatrist in the film. When asked why he was featured in the film, he later humorously replied that he had treated the director Petr Schulhoff, who gave him the role in lieu of a fee for his treatment.
• The film is loosely inspired by the real-life case of serial killer Václav Mrázek, who was sentenced to death in 1957 for a total of 150 offenses, including seven murders.
