Director Claudio Guerín fell from the tower housing the title bell on the last day of shooting and was killed. The film was completed by Juan Antonio Bardem.

The prank played by John on Don Pedro--that his three cousins are dead, and expected by his crazy aunt to return through the open door--is lifted directly from a short story by Saki (Hector Hugh Munro) called "The Open Window".

One of 13 horror and suspense films included in the Nightmare Theater syndication package. Distributed by Avco Embassy Television in 1975, this curated collection brought several international cult titles to American broadcast markets.
