By the time of the filming of Ringo (1978), Ringo Starr was miserable and depressed over his failed marriage and faltering solo career, a condition made worse by his heavy drinking and drug use. Outtakes show him to be testy, short-tempered and disinterested in working on the special. Starr would eventually bottom out in the late 1980s, finding sobriety in 1989 followed by a renewed career with his live rock supergroup Ringo Starr and His All-Starr Band.

Final film of Lois January.
