A music-clearance issue has kept it from ever being released on video or DVD.

According to Robert Altman, Bacall's and Jackson's portrayals were based on Dwight Eisenhower and Adlai Stevenson. In fact, Glenda Jackson as Isabella Garnell had many of her speeches lifted from Stevenson.

The hotel which hosted the health convention in the film was the Don CeSar Beach Hotel in St Petersburg Beach (St Pete Beach), Florida.
