• Originally published under the title "Three Act Tragedy" in 1934.
• The setting has been transferred from Cornwall to Acapulco and the character of Mr. Satterthwaite replaced by Poirot regular Captain Arthur Hastings (Jonathan Cecil).
• The motive for the murders was changed in the film from the ending to the novel. In the Agatha Christie novel 'Three Act Tragedy', the murders are committed due to the murderer being unable to marry due to already having a wife in a mental asylum (and so, by law, being unable to divorce due to one party not being of right mind). In the film, however, the murders are committed due to the murderer being 'mad' and wanting to keep the fact concealed.
