Did you know

• Barbara Hershey's character comes down with viral cardiomyopathy, most commonly caused by the Coxsackie B virus. It weakens the heart drastically, eventually keeping it from pumping enough blood to keep the patient alive. When this movie was made, the disease was fatal. Since 2005, beta blockers and implantable cardio defibrillators have saved thousands of lives.

• Mayim Bialik did not actually sing on camera. Bette Midler wanted someone who sounded like she did at that age, so they used someone else's voice.

• Lainie Kazan didn't want to play CC's mother, but eventually said yes in order to work with Bette Midler.
