Did you know

• Tim and Daphne Reid had previously co-starred on Frank's Place (1987). The groundbreaking single-camera comedy was a hit with critics, but it struggled in the ratings, and frequent rescheduling didn't help matters. A letter-writing campaign didn't reverse CBS's decision to cancel the show, but the overwhelming response eventually prompted the network to greenlight this series.

• Daphne Reid was the first Black woman to headline in an hour-long show since Get Christie Love! (1974) was canceled after one season.

• In the unaired pilot, Tasha Scott portrayed Chance's daughter from a previous marriage, but ultimately she was demoted to playing his niece. Despite the fact that she only appeared in two episodes, Scott retained a starring credit.
