The film takes place in 2025.

The opening car chase, as well as several scenes within the Cyberon monitoring center (with the "Soleil" sign on the wall), the sequence in the cryogenic facility, and the execution scene are all taken from Roger Corman's 1988 film Crime Zone, directed by Luis Llosa. That film's leads, Peter Nelson and Sherilyn Fenn can be seen briefly in a couple of these sequences.

The Shout Factory Blu-ray double feature (with 1988's Crime Zone) features the 80-minute version of the film, plus an alternate 72-minute version as a bonus feature.
