"The Polka Dot Door" aired every weekday. Each day of the week had a different consistent theme. Monday was "Treasure Day". Tuesday was "Dress-Up Day". Wednesday was "Animal Day". Thursday was "Imagination Day". Friday was "Finding-Out Day".

Although it appears improvised, the show was tightly scripted. Prior to filming a series of five episodes, the two cast members, director, and music director would usually meet at a local church to read through the scripts, rehearse songs, and rework segments to be sure that they ran close to the allotted time.

Polkaroo was created by Tanya Petrova, Canadian "Soft Sculpture" artist.
