Did you know
⢠Aki Ross was named #87 on Maxim Magazine's "Hot 100" list for 2001, and was featured on the cover of the supplemental insert. She is the only nonexistent person to date to make that list.
⢠The final cut of the film removes the dramatic reveal that Aki is pregnant from the dialogue, although you can still see visually that when the Phantom tentacles enter her body, the tentacle in her womb changes color. Her fetus is the eighth and final spirit, although the final cut gives the viewer no clue. "I understand," says Dr. Cid, smiling, but the audience never does. Gray's sacrifice to save Aki was intended to be all the more powerful when you know he is sacrificing himself, not only for the woman he loves, but for their unborn child. Apparently this climactic plot element was "too Japanese" for the American film studio. The result is a third act that makes little sense.
⢠All backgrounds are hand painted.
