• According to producer David Winters, he met with Sonny and Cher to discuss his idea for a comedy hour to be hosted by the duo, which would consist of Cher doing put-downs of Sonny as this had been doing well for them in their stage act. The show was filmed in Toronto in 1970. He tried to sell it to both ABC and CBS as a summer replacement. ABC was not interested, and CBS ended up bringing back the Smothers Brothers for that purpose. Winters claimed CBS eventually stole his idea and The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour was born.
