• The Humming Fish's line "I hear things are just as bad up in Lake Erie" was originally in the book (except at least one British version), but was removed 18 years after it was published when Dr. Seuss was informed by two research associates from the Ohio Sea Grant Program about the cleanup of Lake Erie.
• This is the first Dr. Seuss CBS television special to feature the short version of the 1971-1975 Cat in the Hat Productions logo with only the "Cat in the Hat doing tricks" sequence.
• This is the only Dr. Seuss Cartoon Special made by Universal Studios that doesn't feature the Cat in the Hat in any capacity. The Cat appears as the title character in "The Cat in the Hat", and introduces each short in "Dr. Seuss on the Loose" which includes "The Sneetches", "The Zax" and "Green Eggs and Ham" and crosses over with the Grinch in "The Grinch Grinches the Cat in the Hat". The Cat would also appear in "Daisy-Head Mayzie" as well. The Cat does not appear in "Halloween is Grinch Night", "How the Grinch Stole Christmas", "Horton Hears A Who", or "Horton Hatches the Egg" as those were all produced by Warner Bros Studios.
