Bo Dietl, one of the co-Producers of this film, is a former New York City Detective. Stephen Baldwin, one of the film's stars, portrayed him in One Tough Cop (1998), which had been filmed in New York City a couple of months prior to this film, which also takes place there.

In the scene where Rowdy (Michael Rooker) tells Frankie Chips (Burt Young) that he did not want to return to Detroit. This was in reference to his character, who plays for the New York Rangers hockey team, which isn't mentioned in any specific way in the film. The Detroit Red Wings is the other team he mentions in a non-specific way in that monologue.

This was the second time that Michael Rooker played a character named "Rowdy". The first time was in Days of Thunder (1990).
