Ruma (Shabana Azmi) and Gopal (Navin Nischol) loves each other and have plans to marry. However, Ruma gets married to Dr. Jeevan (Sanjeev Kumar), much to her father's insistence. Ruma tries to co-op with this marriage but Dr. Jaavan's busy professional life and Gopal's re-entry into her life, makes her lean towards Gopal again. She falls for Gopal. Jeevan's son from his previous marriage, Gopal (Master Raju), watches them in compromising position. Ruma is frightened and kills Jeevan's son Gopal. Gopal is arrested for killing Jeevan's son Gopal. Ruma's lawyer Ram Sinha (Shatrughan Sinha) uncovers the truth and convinces Ruma to accept her crime. Ruma appears before judiciary, charged and arrested.
