Richard Donner wanted to make this game into a movie, but quickly gave up on the idea.

In an attempt to save themselves from bankruptcy. Sega sold the rights to this game to Activision in 2001. This led to the somewhat odd situation of a high profile Sega game being released on consoles not developed by Sega while Sega was still trying to sell the Dreamcast to consumers.

In the PlayStation Portable port Crazy Taxi: Fare Wars released in 2007, due to being developed by Sniper Studios instead of Sega AM3, signs and references to real-world businesses and chains were removed in order to avoid a patent infringement lawsuit that Sega and its developing division at the time had the license from when they created this game from scratch.
