Dimension Films placed the cast and crew under a gag order, hindering Rick Bota's opportunity to promote the film when Fangoria magazine attempted to do a cover story on the film. Star Ashley Laurence broke the gag order to speak about the film, claiming that she had only been paid enough money to make a payment toward a new refrigerator.

Rick Bota worked as 2nd unit director for Dimension Films productions (Mimic (1997), They (2002)), and was selected to make Hellseeker his directorial debut, which had been shelved but got revived after Hellraiser: Inferno (2000) turned out relatively successful. It was on his suggestion that the existing script be re-written to feature Kirsty Cotton from Hellraiser (1987) as a side character. Unfortunately, the producers couldn't get in touch with Ashley Laurence during pre-production, so they reduced the part and considered re-casting it with someone else. However, when Doug Bradley read the script, he was very pleased by the idea to have Laurence reprise the role, and offered to contact her himself. Laurence was enthusiastic and agreed, but by then, shooting was about to begin and there was no time for revisions to expand Kirsty's role into the script. Bota then gave Bradley permission to add dialogue to Pinhead's dialogue during the finale, specifically to try and bring the film's largely unrelated plot in line with the canon of the first two Hellraiser films. Although filmed, these contributions were mostly cut, but they are available on some DVD releases as a special feature.

(at around 35 mins) Director Rick Bota was initially ambivalent about the idea of Pinhead appearing through an acupuncture chart, thinking it was too silly, but Doug Bradley was so amused by the idea that it was kept in the script.
