Production started in 1997, starring former businessman and politician Bernard Tapie, shortly after he was released from prison and tried a career as an actor. Tapie became quickly disenchanted by the chaotic methods applied by director Jacques Rozier and left production, to be replaced by comedian Jean Lefebvre, who was 24 years his senior. Due to lack of funding, production was then suspended for two years. The version shown at the Venise Film Festival in 2001 was coldly received, and Rozier prevented the film from getting a theatrical release, as he hoped to come up with a better cut. Until Rozier's death, it simply got a couple of screenings around 3am on French TV network Canal+, due to contractual obligations with the network, which had co-produced the film.

Final film directed by Jacques Rozier.
