• In an action sequence involving Rami Malek running, he fell over on the fifteenth take. This was the one they used in the film. He said: "That was the most natural moment we had, and we decided to keep it in the film. I look exhausted because I was. I fell because I naturally tripped."

• The film's source novelist is Robert Littell who has been a journalist and novelist who specializes in espionage novels that frequently are set around the spy world of the CIA and the former Soviet Union. He wrote the screenplay for the original movie of The Amateur (1981) then wrote the novel of the same name afterwards.
