• Director David Twohy has been quoted in interviews as saying he had to battle with the studio to allow the movie to continue on with an R-rating instead of a PG-13 version.

• Timothy Olyphant and Steve Zahn went to Jamaica to film the cove sequence in the kayaks. Olyphant said "You can get weed from anyone in Jamaica. You don't buy it 'cause everybody has it. There's no weed for sale. [...] One time I walked by the gardener of the hotel, and he reeked of weed. Then you go to the lobby, and they're also high. You can get room service to bring you weed.
