As with the previous film, Glass Onion (2022), the subtitle "A Knives Out Mystery," does not appear in the film itself, only on the posters and marketing. Writer-director Rian Johnson has publicly said that he dislikes the subtitle, which is for marketing purposes. He wants each movie to have its own title, much like how Agatha Christie's novels lacked a subtitle to let the reader know it was the new Hercule Poirot mystery.

In August 2025, Netflix announced that the planned theatrical release would be scaled back from earlier plans and the film would have only a token theatrical release instead before going straight to their streaming platform. Apparently, neither director Rian Johnson nor star Daniel Craig were very happy at this decision as they had both wanted audiences to have the option of seeing it shown at cinemas, but their wishes were overruled.

During Martha's final confession to Father Jud, she explains that a lethal dose of pentobarbital takes 10 minutes to kill its ingester. It is later revealed that Martha has ingested the pentobarbital prior to her confession and the confession takes exactly 10 minutes and several seconds before she grows weaker and eventually dies in Jud's arms.
