Walt Longmire is the dedicated and unflappable sheriff of Absaroka County, Wyoming. Widowed only a year, he is a man in psychic repair but buries his pain behind his brave face, unassuming grin and dry wit.

Did you know

• On its premiere in June 2012, the series became A&E TV's most watched original series launch of all time with 4.1 million total viewers.

• A&E canceled the show after the third season. A few months later Netflix picked the show up for its fourth season. Netflix continued to carry the show going forward, through its sixth and final season.

• The scenes for Longmire's cabin are filmed in the Valles Caldera in the Jemez Mountains of New Mexico. The caldera is a 14-mile-wide volcanic crater. It is now a national preserve. Several Westerns including The Missing (2003) and The Lone Ranger (2013) have used this location.
