• On January 12, 2008 a special event occurred where diamond dust weather effects began in the game. This was an event added to celebrate the birthday of Jun'ichi Masuda and has since become a franchise tradition.
• The first Pokemon game to fully utilize WiFi settings on the Nintendo DS, however it's technically the second Pokemon game to have online capabilities. Pokémon Crystal Version (2000) had a function to connect online by using a brand of Game Boy and a cellphone exclusively in Japan.
• Several years before the game's release, a "Diamond Version" for the Game Boy Color was in circulation. However, it was not an official game, but a ROM hack of "Keitai DenJuu Telefang: Speed Version", a Japan exclusive game similar to the Pokémon series.
